Our Legacy

Alpaca Emporio was established in 2014 by Ena, an artisan designer maker, from Peru.

Ena’s family and ancestors (dating back to the Incas) have passed on to her their expertise and knowledge of Alpaca wool. Ena has a deep rooted passion for nature and is committed to the sustainable development of the Andean people.

Ena’s collection is made by peruvian craftspeople using only the highest quality alpaca wool fibers, sourced from the rural mountains in Peru, 3000-5000 meters above sea level.

The Alpaca’s have developed a superior wool fibre that is more durable and sustainable than other wool fibres like that of sheeps wool and cashmere from goats.

There are two varieties of alpaca

Alpaca Suri

It is a slim and delicate Alpaca, with long shaggy hair that nearly reaches the ground which has a silkier and shiner appearance.
The young Suri are very fragile and susceptible to changes in climate and food.

Alpaca Huayaca

Almost 90% of present-day herds. They are strong and robust with a medium- length fleece that has a fluffy appearance.
They are resilient to cold and have a strong immunity against diseases. They are very good at surviving on the most difficult of pasture lands.
